Cleveland School District officials have confirmed that Jay Jones has been hired to be the new head football coach at Cleveland Central High School.
Jones was approved by the school board Thursday. Jones comes to Cleveland Central after serving as assistant football coach at 6A Madison Central High School this past season. He helped guide the Vikings to a 9-3 record with a trip to the 6A State Playoffs.
Jones will take over a program that went 2-9 and missed the 5A State Playoffs in 2019. The Wolves have gone 5-18 over the last two years after going 12-1 with a Region 2-5A Title and a trip to the 5A State Playoffs in 2017.
“We’re excited to have him on board and looking forward to good things from our football program,” CCHS Athletic Director Leroy Cotton said.
Jones will take over for Kendrick Woodard who served as interim head coach in 2019. Woodard is still employed at the school. Jones will be the third head football coach in CCHS history. CCHS was formed in 2017 from the merger of Cleveland High School and East Side High School.
