Mississippi saw a large spike in DUI and drug related arrests over the New Year’s holiday.
The Mississippi Delta can take credit in providing very few numbers to those totals.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Ronnie Shive revealed there were only two arrests for driving under the influence and zero for drugs in his region, which includes Bolivar County.
There were 79 total arrests for DUI and 16 for drugs statewide.
For DUI arrests, 2020’s number is almost double 2019’s report of 48 arrests.
There were only 10 citations for seat belts and one citation for child restraints in the Delta, representing second lowest totals in the state respectively.
There were 10 collisions in the region, with only two injuries. None of the collisions were alcohol related.
Statewide there were 81 total collisions, resulting in 23 injuries and a total of three fatalities.
