RULEVILLE — The Thomas E. Edwards Sr. High School Lady Tigers began the new year on a positive note as they defeated the Greenwood High School Lady Bulldogs 57-49 here Friday night.
The Lady Tigers improved to 10-4.
Thomas E. Edwards got another big scoring night from Ole Miss signee Jacorriah Bracey who scored 31 points. Bracey was able to score 31 points despite being double-teamed, triple-teamed and even quadruple teamed by the Greenwood defense.
The Lady Tigers got some solid performances from the rest of the team. Makaylah Turner scored 10 points and dished out eight assists, and Sham’yah Thomas scored eight points with six of those points coming in the third quarter.
“With everybody quadrupling her (Bracey) this year, we’ve had to go to some of our younger players,” Lady Tigers head basketball coach Chiquita Bracey said. “I have two sophomores, Makaylah Tuner and Sham’yah Thomas, step up pretty big tonight. Makaylah was in double digits, and I’ve been looking for that all year from her. We’ve been focusing more on her getting shots, and she’s doing well in the point guard role.”
Shirlecia Smith tallied six points to aid Thomas E. Edwards.
Thomas E. Edwards will be back in action tonight when the team travels to Clarksdale to take on Coahoma Early College High School at 6 p.m. The Lady Tigers will also hit the road Tuesday to play Amanda Elzy in Greenwood at 6 p.m. Both contests are Region 3-3A games.
