The Delta State University Statesmen are riding a three-game winning streak in men’s basketball action.
The Statesmen defeated Lane College 76-71 Thursday in Cleveland, LeMoyne-Owen College 85-77 Saturday in Memphis, Tenn. and Mississippi University for Women 69-55 Monday in Cleveland.
The Statesmen improved to 3-2.
In Thursday’s game, DSU trailed 38-31 at halftime but outscored Lane College 45-33 in the second half to win the game. Anderson McCoy scored 21 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Airen Brooks scored 20 points with 13 rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal to lead DSU. Austin Laatsch scored 10 points with two rebounds a steal and Zach Varnum scored six points with 14 rebounds, four blocks and three assists to aid DSU.
In Saturday’s game, Brooks led the Statesmen 27 points, nine rebounds, three steals and a block, followed by Keyshaun Street with 17 points, three rebounds and a steal, McCoy with 14 points and six assists and Cameron Burkett with 10 points, five assists, three rebounds and a block.
In Monday’s game, Brooks anchored the Statesmen with 17 points and 17 rebounds, Savvas Georgiadis with 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal, Michael Motley with 11 points and seven rebounds and Laatsch with 11 points, two rebounds and a steal.
DSU will be back in action Saturday against the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala. to open Gulf South Conference play. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
