Although I currently live in St. Louis, I grew up in Cleveland. Because I have an amazingly fabulous family living there, I visit several times a year. It pleases me that the city seems to be doing well … its downtown area has never looked better. And the new GRAMMY Museum Mississippi is a jewel in any crown. The “new” Cleveland has much to be proud of.
My question is why is all of this a big secret beyond the state of Mississippi? Yes, I know a recent article in the April issue of “Southern Living” magazine will help spread the good news, but why not publicize what’s going on beyond the pages of a regional publication? Perhaps a good place to start would be to advertise the city and its museum on billboards, say on Interstate 55 south beginning in Missouri as well as Highway 61 south of Memphis. There are many folks up here who travel that route to New Orleans and elsewhere on the coast; most do not have any idea such “treasures” could be so easily enjoyed during their travels. Or perhaps the powers that be in Cleveland could solicit an article from a professional travel writer detailing the city’s charms and hope for placement in major newspapers within a day’s drive of Cleveland.
My husband and I will continue to do our best to get friends and acquaintances down your way but we need help from y’all.
