Grammy Museum Mississippi will hold its first Gospel Showdown at 2 p.m. Sept. 15 on the front lawn of the museum. NaCherrie Cooper, marketing and communications manager, the museum staff is exciting about this event. “This is going to be such a great opportunity for some gospel music lovers,” she said. Ten groups will be selected to perform two songs and will be allotted 10 minutes for their performance. Groups selected will be judged by song, appearance, and crowd support. There will be two prizes awarded. The first will be a Grand Prize of $500, payable to choir’s church, a trophy and an invitation to perform at Grammy Museum Mississippi Family Day on Sept. 29. The runner up will receive a trophy. “We’re looking for submissions now,” said Cooper, adding the deadline is Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. She said the rules and online entry form are on the website, www.grammymuseumms.org, and entries may be mailed in also to Grammy Museum Mississippi, Attn: The Gospel Showdown, 800 West Sunflower Rd., Cleveland, MS 38732 Each choir must designate a representative who will serve as the choir’s spokesperson and point of contact. This person will be responsible for the accurate and timely submission of all required information and documentation. Each choir should submit a video of a recent performance of the choir. There is no fee to submit an entry. Advance tickets, at $5, will be available until noon Sept 15. Tickets purchased after that time will be $8. Members and youth under 5 attend free of charge. Tickets are non-refundable. In the event of rain, an alternate date will be determined.
