MVSU Alumni Chapter to host “Meet & Greet”

The Bolivar County Mississippi Valley State University Alumni Chapter is hosting a “Meet & Greet” event on Aug. 9 at the United Family Life Center at 1101 Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Drive in Cleveland.

All alumni and friends of MVSU are encouraged to attend.

Casey named to GSC Top 10; Commissioner’s Trophy Finalist

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Delta State University senior outfielder Clay Casey has been named announced as one of the Gulf South Conference’s “Top Ten” Award winners.

These awards recognize the top five female and top five male student-athletes for their athletic, academic, and extracurricular achievement during the 2017-18 academic year. Of this group, the top male and top female will receive the Commissioner's Trophy, the conference's most elite award.

Ruleville 42, Jefferson Davis County 39

The Ruleville Central Tigers moved one step closer to a state title by defeating Jefferson Davis County Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Boys Basketball Tournament at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

DSU teams sweep CBU

The Delta State University Statesmen and Lady Statesmen both had great nights against Christian Brothers University Wednesday night in Gulf South Conference action at Memphis, Tenn.

The Statesmen clinched a spot in the GSC Tournament by defeating the Buccaneers 55-53 in the men’s game, while the Lady Statesmen defeated the Lady Buccaneers 59-57 to move into a one game lead for eighth in the GSC.

Williams commits to Murray State, Wolves win big over Horn Lake

Friday evening turned out to be a special one for the Cleveland Central High School boys basketball program at the Margaret Wade Gymnasium.

Senior center and Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selection Kamarion Williams made his verbal commitment to play basketball at Murray State University, a Division I program in the Ohio Valley Conference.

After Williams made his commitment, the Wolves defeated Horn Lake 58-31.

DSU baseball preseason picked to win GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Delta State University has been named the unanimous baseball preseason Gulf South Conference favorite for the 2018 season, as selected by the league's head coaches.

 The Statesmen, who posted a 45-13 overall record and went 25-8 in the GSC, enter the season as the two-time defending GSC Tournament champion after claiming the 2017 NCAA Division II South Region title and advancing to the NCAA Division II World Series.
