Statesmen sweep another GSC series

The fifth ranked Delta State University Statesmen had another sweep in Gulf South Conference baseball action as they took all three games from the Union University Bulldogs this weekend in Jackson, Tenn.

DSU won the first game Saturday 12-6 and both games Sunday by the scores of 4-3 in 10 innings and 13-3 in seven innings. The series sweep was DSU’s fifth of the year in GSC play.

Bayou splits doubleheader with Lee

The Bayou Academy Colts didn't have an easy time with the Lee Academy Colts here in a District 1-AAA doubleheader here Thursday evening. 

Bayou lost the first game 5-3 before coming back with authority in the second game with a 15-3 victory. After beating Lee 18-1 Tuesday, the doubleheader split gave the blue and white Colts the series win over the green and white Colts. 

Hornets use huge sixth inning to cruise past Hawks

MOUND BAYOU — The John F. Kennedy Hornets had their offense clicking on all cylinders in the sixth inning of the Region 3-1A baseball game against the Shaw High School Hawks here Thursday evening.

The Hornets, which led 7-1 in the first three innings, saw the Hawks fight back and cut their lead down to 7-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

JFK thunder back in the sixth and had a huge eight-run inning with eighth grader DeAndre Holt capping it off with a walk-off grand slam home run to lead the Hornets to a 15-5 victory in a game called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.

MOUND BAYOU — Bolivar County’s most storied rivalry was renewed on the baseball diamond as the Broad Street High School Jaguars from Shelby traveled just a mere three miles down the highway to take on the John F. Kennedy Hornets here Monday afternoon.

The two teams had their struggles on the mound pitching wise as they combined for 19 walks and two hit batters.

Wolves’ comeback falls short in 10-9 loss

Climbing out of a huge deficit in a game is never easy.

The Cleveland Central High School Wolves fell behind the Washington School Generals 7-0 going into the bottom of the second in a non-region baseball game here Tuesday night at Sank Powe Field. The Wolves battled back with a vengeance but came up short as they fell to the Generals 10-9.

The Cleveland Central High School Wolves suffered a tough extra inning loss to the Neshoba Central Rockets in nine innings in a Region 3-5A contest Friday at Sank Powe Field.

Lady Statesmen stretch winning streak to 8 with sweep over CBU

The Delta State University Lady Statesmen continued to stay hot against the Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneers in a three-game Gulf South Conference softball series here at University Field this weekend.

The Lady Statesmen swept the Lady Buccaneers in the series. They won the first two games on Friday 9-1 and 13-5 with both games lasting five innings. Delta State closed out the series with a 13-5 win in six innings on Saturday.

No. 6 DSU takes three from CBU

The No. 6 ranked Delta State University Statesmen picked up a much needed Gulf South Conference series sweep over the Christian Brothers University Buccaneers in baseball action this weekend here at Ferriss Field-Harvey Stadium. 

The Statesmen won the first two games on Friday by defeating the Buccaneers 6-4 in the first game and 4-0 in the second game. The Statesmen stormed back on Saturday to complete the sweep with a 12-2 victory.
