MVSU Alumni Chapter to host “Meet & Greet”

The Bolivar County Mississippi Valley State University Alumni Chapter is hosting a “Meet & Greet” event on Aug. 9 at the United Family Life Center at 1101 Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Drive in Cleveland.

All alumni and friends of MVSU are encouraged to attend.

The guests this year will be the Mississippi Valley State University President Dr. Jerryl Briggs and MVSU head football coach Vincent Dancy.

Lady Colts open soccer season with win

The Bayou Academy Lady Colts opened the soccer season with a 5-1 win over the Kirk Academy Lady Raiders Monday in Cleveland.

Libby Bassie and Sydney Davis scored two goals each to lead Bayou, followed by Addison Vargas with a goal.

Bayou will travel to Senatobia to play Magnolia Heights Monday.

NSA softball goes 1-1

The North Sunflower Academy Lady Rebels went 1-1 earlier this week.

The Lady Rebels lost to Kirk 7-6 in a thriller in Grenada Monday but battled back to defeat Desoto 15-3 in Helena, Ark. Tuesday.

NSA pushed its record to 2-3.

Jaden Robinson was NSA’s pitcher in both games.

Football sign-ups underway

The Cleveland Park Commission is currently holding sign-ups for flag and tackle football.

Flag football is for youth ages 6-9 and tackle football is for youth ages 10-12. Registration fee is $40 in town and $80 out of town. No sign-ups will be taken over the phone.

Deadline for registration is Aug. 10.
