The Delta State University Statesmen kept their season moving in the right direction here Tuesday night at the Walter Sillers Coliseum.
The Statesmen won their third in a row by defeating the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers 62-50 in a key Gulf South Conference match-up. DSU improved to 6-7 with a 4-1 mark in the GSC, while UAH fell to 9-4 with a 3-2 mark in the conference.

UAH was also held to just six assists with 14 turnovers.
“I was really pleased with our guys and how hard we played,” Statesmen head basketball coach Jim Boone said. “Huntsville, obviously, is a very good team. They tax you in every way possible. You’ve got to be very focused and very alert and you have to play defense for 30 seconds. If you break down for one, they’re going to beat you on the cut. You have to be at your best, and we were pretty good tonight. I loved our effort. I thought our effort was outstanding.”
Senior forward and former East Side High School standout PJ Davis and junior guard Brett Warner anchored the scoring for the Statesmen. Davis scored 20 points with six rebounds, three blocks and a steal, and Warner scored Warner scored 19 points with four rebounds and four assists.
“I was really pleased to see both PJ and Brett’s aggressiveness,” Boone said. “They went out and hunted opportunities but did it within the scope of what we do. I thought our guys did a really good job of getting the ball to them.”
