Becky Nowell named Main Street Hero

 

Cleveland Main Street took home the trophies Thursday morning at the Mississippi Main Street Awards. The Mississippi Main Street Association celebrated achievements of Mississippi Main Street Communities at the 29th Annual Awards Luncheon in downtown Jackson. MMSA Board President Ed Gardner and MMSA Past President Allison Beasley presented awards to recipients from local Main Street programs throughout the state.

Calvin B “Cal” Burns, 55, of Mound Bayou passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Mound Bayou with Elder William Cummings officiating.

Nora Bell “George Score” Jackson

Claudette Carter, 63, of Chicago, IL, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018. A private memorial service was held Thursday, May 31, 2018, at AA Raynor & Son Funeral Home in Chicago. She was born August 8, 1955, in Chicago to the late Betty and Louis Carter Jr. She attended East Side High School. She later moved to Chicago. She is preceded in death by her grandmother Mrs. Callie Mae Carter; and her aunt Ester Lee Jackson. Survivors include her father Louis Carter Jr. of Chicago, IL; two daughters Juwan Carter-Trotter of Cleveland and Rickaya Carter of Madison, WI; one son Jamal Carte of Madison, WI; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Bobby Carter of Cleveland; sister Rosie Jackson of Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
