D.M. Smith finds new leader for Cubs Featured

Brown is no stranger to education, administration or Cleveland and its schools. "I have been an educator for 18 years and I have been an administrator for 14 years. Most recently I served as an assistant principal at Cleveland Central Middle School. I have also worked as high school principal at West Bolivar High School and as a high school and middle school principal in Hollandale," said Brown. Brown grew up in Rosedale where he attended Rosedale High School. While in school, Brown most enjoyed his classes in English, literature, journalism and history. After high school Brown moved away from Rosedale but not away from learning. "I attended Alcorn State University, the University of Southern Mississippi, Kansas State University, and Delta State University. I served in the army and earned a technical degree in auto-mechanics," he said. When it came time to settle down though, Brown knew exactly where he wanted to be. "Cleveland is home. This is my third time working in the Cleveland School District as an administrator. I enjoy the people I have worked with, supervised, and taught over the years and I love seeing students grow into adulthood," said Brown. It didn't hurt that his alma matter was also located in the town. "I enjoyed my time at Delta State and I am very appreciative of what the educational institutions of Delta State University and the Cleveland School District have contributed to my life. I have one bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from DSU. I also earned full scholarships during my time at DSU. The Cleveland School District has hired me three times and promoted once. The Cleveland community has been a God sent blessing to me," he added. Brown's goals for his first year at D.M. Smith are clear and simple. "We plan to become a successful rated school based on the standards of the Mississippi Department of Education," Brown said.
