MLK program to honor musician, remember vision Featured

The 100 Black Men of Bolivar County will commemorate the life of local musician Eddie Edwards at this year's Dr. Martin Luther King Annual Memorial Services at 11 a.m. Monday at United Baptist Church in Cleveland.

Sen. Willie Simmons, president of the 100 Black Men of Bolivar County, will honor Edwards.

"Locally, we are also honored to remember our lost brother, Eddie Edwards, whom gave so much to the community through his music and civic services by registering and encouraging voters throughout Bolivar County,” said Simmons.

The tribute will be followed by a medley of Edwards' favorite songs, performed by his children Eric and Shara Edwards.

The theme for this year's program is, "Remembering the Dream in Pursuit of the Vision," and will include youth from various schools throughout the county.

"This year, as we pause to celebrate and remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we challenge the citizens of America to stay focus and committed to Dr. King's Dream and Vision," said Simmons.

The event will also include Juandalyn R. Rankins, the First Lady of Alcorn State University and an alumna of East Side High School.

Dr. Alfred Rankins, her husband, will introduce her.

Rankins earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Mississippi State University.

She partners with the university to serve and promote its mission, vision, and values through mentoring, community outreach, and fundraising.

With 15 years of manufacturing experience, Rankins' career focus is Quality Management System.

She began in QMS as a quality engineer/ISO with responsibility for compliance to the ISO 9001 Technical Specification.

After pursuing other opportunities in industrial engineering, manufacturing management, continuous improvement and quality assurance, she returned to QMS as a quality engineer with responsibility for compliance to the aerospace industry.

She later became lead auditor and quality engineer with responsibility for compliance to the automotive industry and is currently a quality manager with the responsibility for achieving customer satisfaction.
